Below are some post seminar thoughts:
Clean up the edges of the painting, this is so the paint-problems feel more deliberate
Ditch the masked ‘trims’ and replace this with real trims
The trims do not have to go around the whole painting, but instead could be on one or two sides
Stick with one or two paint problems and make the colour the point of difference
Mixed opinions on the install, some preferred the paintings separated out as it made it easier to focus on the details of the paintings. Although the grid layout did imply colour pallet in one of the crit sessions.
Positive feedback on the square as sample like. I am considering doing a full patch board size though as it would further reference the wall.
More. I plan to make more works this time whether they be full patch board sheets of halved like this seminar past
I have to pay extra care to epoxy bond the right angled hanging mechanism straight as it would ensure an easier install
There was some suggestion to paint the gallery wall a commercial colour like Black White. I have decided against this as it goes against treating the commercial products as fine art materials, which is important to clarify my play with commercial painting failures against fine art painting successes.
The artist statement was left uncommented on which means it was doing its job, but it could be better.
I need to pay attention to the detail to pull the works off or the exact opposite, At the moment the works are sitting somewhere in the middle
Keep the titling style
Below are some photos of where my work is at, at the moment, keeping the above notes in mind.
